... my amazing son Colby?
Colby came into our lives when we wanted another baby so badly we could hardly stand it. He was truly the answer to our prayers. He has always been a very special kid. He is amazingly smart and remembers everything he hears.
Colby is an old soul. Most of the time he acts much older than his 11 years. He worries about the problems of the world and is often reminded he needs to be a kid. He is also very spiritual and inspires me often in my faith.
It seems Colby was born to run. His first race was a Turkey Trot in 3rd grade at his school in Hawaii. He won, while wearing his Mickey Mouse Crocs.
In 2010 we got orders from Hawaii to California. While testing him for admittance into private schools, he fell in love with the idea of attending Linfield Christian School. The number one reason was their Running Club. The kids earn t-shirts and hats for laps up to 999. At 1,000 laps they earn a trophy.
Colby found out that the record for most laps ran in a year was 1,058. He set out to beat that record. Throughout the 5th grade he was at school early every day, running his little heart out. At the end of the year he earned his trophy and the new record of 1,192 laps. You see, just beating it was not enough. He needed to keep going until they wouldn't let him run anymore.
Most recently he completed 3 half marathons and was inducted into the Half Fanatics Insane Asylum (#1899). His time has improved with each race. He spends his time after he finishes cheering on other runners until I make him leave. Not only is he an amazing runner, he is a wonderful ambassador of our sport.
This kid is an inspiration. I can't wait to see what God has in store for him as he grows into an adult!
Have you met my amazing son Colby? If not, you are missing out!
