I started 2013 on a very positive note. I won first female in the 2012-2013 Across The Years event. On New Years Day I received a beautiful trophy and my second 100 mile belt buckle. I was very excited to get the year started and push myself even further.
It is funny how life can seem so positive and be on track one day and throw you in the spin cycle the next. ATY was the highlight of the year and one of only two races I was truly successful in.
After ATY I went to Disney World and ran the Goofy Challenge. It wasn't meant to be a PR by any means, but I was surprised how much I struggled. Being less than 2 weeks after ATY took its toll.
The next significant race was Ray Miller 50. I had the flu and dropped to the 50k, posting a rather terrible time in the process. In March I ran the Razorback 100 in 26:09 and was most proud of Colby's performance in the 100k.
The week after Razorback was Beyond Limits 100. I struggled through that one with a personal worst time of 29:32. April included dropping from Leona Divide 50m to the 50k and yet another PW of over 9 hours. I struggled with an undiagnosed pain in my leg and frustration. May included a weak 100k pacing Colby in his first 100miler. Being with him was precious, but my athletic performance sucked.
June was the ambulance ride off the San Diego 100 course.
July did not include a race. The only month of my entire long distance running history without a race. July did include a move from California to Colorado. It included saying goodbye to my friends and uprooting my life.
August was the Leadville 10k and yet another DNF and Leadville 100. I also ran an almost shameful 30 miles at Silverton in 48 hours. Again, this race included many smiles and fun watching Colby finish 100 #2.
October gave a little victory. I took second AG at the Boulder 50k and finally felt a little normal again. Of course, October also found me another DNF at Javelina.
I haven't blogged. I haven't ran as much as I would like. I have missed my life in California.
I wrote all this out for me. To remember. 2013 was a year I won't really look fondly upon. I am glad it is over. The best part is that I have huge plans for 2014 and the lessons learned come forward with me.
